For hardening off and protecting young and non-hardy plants. Ideal for raising seedlings, plugs and cuttings.
The Haxnicks Hardwood Cold Frame is made from chestnut hardwood and galvanised metal fittings for long life, and with twin-wall shatterproof polycarbonate glazing to provide a high degree of insulation. Cold Frames are primarily used in the early spring to harden off young plants from the greenhouse prior to planting out. However, many plants do not need the degree of control provided by a heated greenhouse and a Cold Frame will give all the warmth and protection necessary for many plants to propagate from seeds or cuttings. Similarly Plugs and Bedding will always grow more vigorously if they spend a few days in the Cold Frame before planting out. As the year advances the Cold Frame becomes indispensable in the vegetable plot. It will serve as a very efficient cloche for cucumbers, courgettes and melons; or it can used to encourage the fastest growth in cut-and-come-again salads. Perhaps the best service it can provide is in the herb garden, as it will widen the choice of varieties that can be grown to include the Mediterranean, Asian and Oriental.
